Fantastic: the masters at work!To the outraged minority: I think it's pretty clear - THIS IS A PARODY! F & S are playing on -and playfully pulling down- the facade that any nation creates for and about itself - hence they describe predudices, and don't say much on the charateristics of the english themselves. By overreacting so spectacularly, you're demonstrating precisely the sort of blind, sentimental devotion to a nation that the pair were parodying way back in the 60's. Anyway: Enjoy!

It's called capitalism, my dear chap. Ok when practised by Americans, but not when practised by the English, apparently.

(I should point out that I was responding to the poster who said that the British empire was "great & good".)

I disagree. 99% of the reason it was created by England's powerful was for their own monetary gain (and 1% owing to sentiment), and the fact that this was brought about by discounting the interests of the colonized and then walking among them, consciously dressing & speaking differently ... ugh! Pretty evil.

According to the radio special I heard about them, they felt that the times were changing, but if you had asked both of them, Flanders would have been more than likely to continue. Swann wanted to do other things musically and did, such as "The Road Goes Ever On". Their parting was amicable, as far as I can tell. Thanks for the facts about Flanders, Leon!
