superb! Still hoping that they release her Katja Kabanova (from Amsterdam) on DVD sometime... Was one of her last performances and truly magnificent.

After hearing those Cosi clips, I'd recognize this voice anywhere. Chilcott was just lovely, her voice as much as her face, and we're so lucky to have these videos to remember her...

It was my great privilege to partner Susan in Rusalka at ENO in 1995. She was a wonderful colleague and her early death was one of the cruellest things to happen to the lyric world for many years - it's easy to see in this wonderful clip what a magnificent singing actress the world lost.

I love her lyric timbre, it has real warmth and vibrancy, which are ideal qualities for lyric heroines like Desdemona, Fiordiligi or Jenufa. Her musicianship is also so simple and yet so touching! That is a real gift. And, considering the videos of her in YouTube, I think she had an outstanding technique! With that wonderful timbre, she only had to be musical and to have enough discipline, but she had much more: she really sounds like a true artist should! ;-/

what a wonderful acting-in-singing.... I have seen her only twice in Katá Kabanova and Dialogues des Carméliter (Deckers also) and guess I was too young and that time to understand what a rare singing actress she was... Thank you for posting this posting!

Yes, she was a great talent. I've only watched her on youtube, and she's always sounded and looked gorgeous. I love her instrument and attention to text. She's also got GREAAAAAAAAAAT legato.

my memory plays trick with me... Still, what a waste for opera world, what tragic ending for such a lovely young woman... |
