"Shades of Grey" was the title of the article in that issue of Metal Hammer. "Dir en grey" doesn't mean anything, it's a just mix of different languages that they thought sounded cool together. At least that's their answer when they're asked these days.

Dir En Grey is named so, as it is not biased towards a certain country or language, therefore their language does not have a language barrier.

It means nothing.Kyo has said many times that they made the name up of words from different languages.Basically they just wanted something meaningless which also sounded good. |
